Installation

Installation of smoke, carbon monoxide and gas detectors

Home should be a place that gives us a sense of security. When planning the construction of a new house or renovating an existing flat, we often choose more expensive and safer solutions.

Unfortunately, even a well-designed and serviced building is full of hidden dangers. That is why it is worth equipping your home with autonomous sensors that will allow you to detect dangers such as smoke, carbon monoxide or gas.

Below we present where to mount a given sensor and what we should pay attention to.

SMOKE ALARM

The greatest security will be ensured by installing one sensor in each room. If such a solution is not possible, you should consider placing at least one on each floor – especially around the bedroom, children’s room and living room. Remember that our sense of smell does not work while we sleep, so we cannot sense the danger.

A properly installed smoke detector should be located in the center of the ceiling of the room, away from the fan, door or window that will blow away the potential hazard and prevent the detector from detecting it.

CARBON MONOXIDE
ALARM

The sensor should be placed close to the appliance (1 to 3 meters) with a potential source of carbon monoxide emissions (stove, gas, oil, coal boiler, fireplace, etc.). Wall mounting is recommended – approx. 150 to 200 cm above the floor (at the height of an adult’s nose or higher).

Make sure that the device is not installed near ventilation or other devices that interfere with air movement. In multi-storey houses, at least one device should be placed on each floor.

NATURAL GAS ALARM

Natural gas is much lighter than air and therefore it rises at the top. These types of sensors should be mounted on the wall, approx. 30 cm from the ceiling and at a distance of 1 m to 3 m from any potential source of gas emission, such as a stove. During assembly, it is necessary to pay attention to install the device in places that do not restrict the air supply to the sensor.

Remember to keep a safe distance from the gas stove so that the fumes generated during cooking do not damage the sensor sensor.

PROPANE-BUTANE GAS ALARM

Propane-butane gas (LPG) is heavier than air and therefore accumulates close to the ground. In this case, the sensor should be installed on the wall, but not higher than 30 cm from the floor (from its lowest part). Be sure to keep a distance of 1 to 3 m from any potential gas leak.

It is important not to mount the sensor directly above the stove. The cooking fumes may contaminate the sensor of the appliance, causing the failure of the appliance.

Proper installation of the sensor is very important for its proper operation. It is equally important to carry out regular checks on the condition of the device. Each sensor has an appropriate button for testing the status of the device. By briefly pressing the button, the device will test the electronic circuits, confirming that the test has been successfully completed by a beep. You should also remember to clean the sensor regularly with a damp cloth – do not use chemicals to clean this type of devices. Correct installation and proper use of the sensor will ensure safety and trouble-free use.
